Introducing Fairbanks Chiropractor Dr. Todd Lovell
My Name is Todd, and I have a drug problem......
Let me explain a few things first so that you understand the seriousness of my drug problem.
When I was 12 years old, my family met a Chiropractor who was new to our town. He was young, and ambitious, and had a new family but purchased an old house. We owned an interior decorating store, and through necessity, we met. I, being 12 years old, was recruited to babysit his children. He had money and I needed money (not for my drug problem). It was a perfect match.
As time wore on, his family became closer to ours. When I was in 10th grade, he asked me what I was going to do with my life. I had not given it any consideration at that point. He suggested to me that I consider being a chiropractor. I would be able to help people all day long and assist them to get well without the use of drugs. I gave it ten seconds worth of consideration and continued to do whatI did best, hang out with my friends.
As the next few years passed, I found myself revisiting that suggestion as more and more of my classmates were focusing on college. I went on to graduate from high school, but was unable to attend college for financial reasons. I applied for a job in the mail room of large telephone company and started to work my way up the corporate ladder. The pay was great, but the work was ultimately unfulfilling. I always had it in the back of my mind that someday I was going to become a chiropractor, and the people I worked with knew it.
So, eight years into the job, I get a phone call from my chiropractor friend. He invites me to his place for the weekend to catch up, as we had not seen each other in six or seven years. He wasted no time in telling me that I was in a dead end job (because I did not go to college) and that I was avoiding the inevitable. He felt that it was my destiny to become a chiropractor, and that I should go back to school now, while I was young and single. I had saved up some money, and should do what I was meant to do, become a chiropractor. So I did! I completed my bachelor's degree, and enrolled in Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas. I graduated from Parker College in December of 1995. Parker College is steeped in philosophy. That philosophy being that the power that made the body can heal the body if the interference that is causing the body's dis-ease, is removed. Drugs do not belong in the body as they are foreign to the natural state of the body, and being such, are considered by the body to be poison. This is the nature of my drug problem.
Chiropractors strive to diagnose the nature of the problem and remove the underlying cause of the dis-ease without the use of drugs, allowing the power that created your body to heal your body. The doctor simply removes the interference that is preventing or slowing the healing process, thus allowing the healing process to occur. Many drugs just cover up the problem, allowing you, the patient, to "live with" the problem instead of fixing the nature of the illness. This is the nature of my drug problem.
As a new patient in our practice, we will perform an examination to try to determine the true cause of the symptoms that you are experiencing. We will determine the cause, and set up a plan of action to correct the problem. I will educate you and answer any questions that you may have each visit. This is a partnership between you and me. We will set up a treatment plan that will be as aggressive or conservative as you are comfortable with. But the goal will always be to first remove the pain, and then to correct the underlying problem - to get you fixed up from the inside out. You will be treated in the clinic by myself and my staff and you will most often be expected to do some homework of your own. Patients are often instructed to use cold packs at home or do home exercises to rehabilitate and strengthen the area of injury. This may be as conservative as an evening walk a few times per week or Core exercises to strengthen the affected area. The key point is that we will be working together to get the underlying cause of the nature of your dis-ease removed so that you may allow the body to heal properly.
I have been practicing in Alaska since 1997. We first opened an office in Nome, then opened our second clinic in Fairbanks in 2005. I am married and have been with my wife, Vicky, for 13 years now. We have a son, Rane, and a daughter, Kendall. You will often see Vicky in the office as she is the office manager. When we are not in the office, we are rafting on the river systems, fishing, hiking or camping somewhere in Alaska.
As a Chiropractor, I believe in practicing what I preach. I get adjusted by other chiropractors in my area and also when I am away from home. I know that I can only be at my best when I have regular adjustments. I adjust my family on a regular basis as well.
That is enough about me for now! I would like to know how we can help you. The next step is to call our office and schedule an appointment, or even just stop by and check out the place to see if what we have to offer feels right to you. Contact us soon, so that we may help you take you first step to better health.
